Captain's Quarters
Back to Fanfic Page

This is a design of the Captain's Quarters (and Seven's as well, of course) from my Just Between series.  I tried to get it as close as possible to what is in the show though I'm only able to eyeball what little is revealed (in episodes like Night, Timeless and Latent Image) as well as figure out the dimensions of what I know furniture and things to be. I figured this would make it easier to know what I was talking about in my stories.

1.  The Closet - note that the red area is Janeway's and the blue area is Seven's.  Captain did rule in closet space but our Borg is expanding her horizons.

2.  Replicator - This indicates an equipment replicator/recycler which would provide uniforms and supplies as well as remove dirt from existing clothing.  These replicators are severely rationed but Seven had still saved up enough strips to create her wedding dress and ... uh, that 'accessory'. Janeway has yet to get her pool cue.

3.  Tub - A big ol' whirlpool tub with twenty-four jets and a massage unit.  Janeway's one great pleasure ... before Seven came along, of  course. The controls are on the strip of wall between the closet and the tub.

4.   Shower - This is a combination hydro and sonic unit.  You will note that it's about five by three, more than roomy enough for two.  The triangles are where the water comes out (note: there are three to make sure every part of the body(ies) gets wet *ahem*).  There are also sonic emitters lining the walls.  From Drone (where the Doctor interrupts B'Elanna), they look a little like track lighting but they're supposed to vibrate the dirt off the user.  Seven adores them.  They give Janeway a headache.  There's a towel rack for the shower by the door.

5.  Waste Disposal Unit - Or as Seven knows it, the big white thing where she learned the concept of vomiting.

6.  Sink Counter - The double lines here indicate the mirror which fills that whole wall.  The number '6' on the counter is located approximately where Seven made those indentations in JB Friends.   They'll never be able to get them out unless they have the whole counter resurfaced.

7.  Queen sized Bed - Seven sleeps on the left hand side, closest to the ensuite.  Unless Janeway is in bed first.  The captain tends to commandeer the exact middle so Seven must sleep in whatever space is remaining which is why she sometimes ends up on the 'wrong side' (where her left hand is the free one as opposed to the right).  Also, Janeway moves around quite a bit when she sleeps so Seven is constantly adjusting in order to breathe.  The night stands at the head of the bed on both sides were added after Seven moved in.  They are small, three-drawer units.  The one on the left contains the Wonder Wand 9000 (JB Lovers & JB Promises).  Against the wall separating the bedroom from the living area, there used to be a little glass table with a vase boasting alien type flowers (Latent Image) but I took it out to accommodate the travel path of whoever is sleeping on that side.

8.  I think this is a chair/lounger of some sort.  I've only seen the bottom of it peeking out through the door (Night) and it also seems to be angled so that the bottom is towards the living area.  Frankly, I have the impression of a big ol' lawn chair but I could be wrong.  Any further info is certainly welcome.

9. Jake's area.  Includes a food and water dish (which spills sometimes, leaving wet patches for unwary Starfleet captains who leave the bedroom in their bare feet).  The line of green represents a row of hedgelike plants in order that Jake can do his business in relative privacy. The grey area is the Eradicator which Seven invented to look after this sort of thing.  There was a doggy bed at one time, but Jake never used it so our couple got rid of it. There used to be a table sitting against in this corner with alien type flowers.

10.  Grandfather Clock - Janeway has a lot of antiques and ornaments in her quarters, and this is an old style time piece, complete with pendulum.  It has been adapted to readout a LED of ship time just below the clock face which shows standard time. Visible in Night and Latent Image.

11. Table -  It has a large Victrola on it as well as some other old looking stuff.

12. Shelves - I've seen a bonsai tree, vases, various Oriental looking things and bronzed busts.

13. Couch - Sofa, pull out bed.  This is where Seven slept when Janeway lost her memories (JB Memories).  There are large beams separating the couch from the shelves and it was hard to get a sense of their dimensions but they can be seen clearly in Night and Latent Image.  They seem to be structural supports for the ship itself and jut out a certain distance into the room though perhaps not as much as I've allowed for in the blueprint. The best view of this is in 11:59 where Janeway and Seven were sort of cuddled up on it together (the foot wide separation notwithstanding.)

14. Chair - This is the chair Janeway was sitting in reading poetry when Seven popped by at two in the morning for a 'philosophical discussion' (Latent Image).  They snuggle up together here sometimes.  It's a big chair.

15. Footstool - For Janeway's tender little footsies when she comes in after a hard day.  Seven can perch on the coffee table and rub her feet.  It can probably be tucked under the chair when not in use ... or at least, that's how I'd design it.  And explains why it's not there sometimes.

16. Coffee Table - It looks like a glass top but it's most likely transparent aluminum so it doesn't get busted every time the ship loses its integrety field and things go flying about.  And so Seven can sit on it without going through.

17. Table - Where they share all those romantic dinners that Seven makes.  Smaller than the original which was more rectangular with rounded ends.  Still can seat four, which is useful when B'Elanna and Ro stop by for lunch.

18. Seven's Kitchenette - This used to be where the show's original dining table was located (Latent Image).  Once Seven got her kitchen, they had to get a much smaller table.  There is a heating and cooling unit under the counter as well as all sorts of nooks and crannies for her herbs and spices.  A single low-backed wooden stool sits on the outside of the counter.  You know who that is for.

19. Replicator - The best shot of this was in Latent Image.  It looks sort of like an ATM machine only with food rather than money.  I presume that there is also a recycle unit within this that allows for cleaning and storing of dishes, disposing of left over food, etc.  Or at least, that's the theory I'm going with in my stories.

20. Table - This was shown in Latent Image as Seven entered.  I think it holds another vase with alien flowers.

21. Doorway - This is where Seven enters from the corridor in Latent Image.

22. Work area - These are two desks back to back.  Janeway's is on the left, her back to Jake's area.  Originally, there was one desk set parallel to to the couch, facing the window with the captain's back to the wall.  That desk was shown really well in the episode Night.  These are the same type of desks, bluish with a glass insert.

The double lines over the tub, the bed and the three in the living area indicate the large hull windows that look out into space and the fore part of the ship.  I pegged them at five feet long but I could be wrong.  I used Janeway for this.  If you picked her up and laid her horizontally, how much would she overlap?  That's how I got my measurements.  Hey, so it's not exactly TLC's Hometime here, all right?
