NAUGHTY BOY by Buffy Sinclair (zine: Beyond the Farthest Star 7)
Discovering that Troi and Riker are into spanking sessions, Beverly becomes 'Mistress Beverly', and gives the captain a good seeing-to on the bridge!
Reviewed by : Janis - Definitely adults only! Utter filth, but it's funny, not offensive. Characterization isn't really applicable here, but obviously it's virtually nil! If you're broad-minded, you'll enjoy it - if you're not, leave well alone! 7.50
THE NECESSITY OF PAIN by Marina Bailey (zine: Bedside Manners)
Picard rescues Beverly from Orion slave, then as they return to the ship, they are kidnapped by Cardassians. Gul Madred wants revenge e and turns out to have engineered the whole thing, guessing Jean-Luc would be the one to rescue Beverly. Upon learning what Madred has planned for her, Picard is faced with a decision -- one that could change their relationship forever.
Reviewed by : Janis - An interesting idea and there are a few sections that work, but in the main, too much is not dealt with nearly enough or in a satisfying way. The characterization, too, is often way off the mark. 6

NEED TO GET CLOSER by Janis Sherringham
(internet part 1,
part 2 : website)
While on shore leave, Beverly Crusher is accidentally exposed to a plant substance which acts as a very potent aphrodisiac on humans. She puts the moves on Will Riker, who soon realizes she is more than just drunk. Although Riker calls in medical assistance, Beverly's condition soon becomes more than he can handle and he calls Captian Picard for help. Jean-Luc agrees to stay and care for Beverly, helping her through the most difficult and intense phase of her illness without taking advantage of her condition.
Reviewed by : Terry - Although dealing with a rather delicate topic, this story is done with taste and care. Not once does it get rude, crude nor descend into the shock value only language that often accompanies material of this nature. The characters are very believable and the frustration of both Picard, and Crusher especially are evident. I found no erotic response to this story, simply great concern for Crusher's well being as you aren't certain that she will be able to overcome this illness. Adults only! 8.50

NEW COURSE by Terry S. Bowers (internet)
Set during and immediately after the poker game in 'All Good Things', Jean-Luc and Beverly go to her quarters: they have much to discuss.
Reviewed by : Janis - I've read lots of these post poker stories and for some reason, none of them really deliver. I think a longer version with a lot more dialogue might be in order (maybe I'll give it a try myself one day). Although this is way short of perfect, it is most certainly the best I've read so far, and the last few lines are fabulous. 7

ON OUR OWN by Terry S. Bowers (currently unavailable)
On a planet during the time a ritual is about to take place, Crusher is horrified and sickened to learn she has been chosen to take part. She has no choice - she must consent to have sex with any males who wish to mate with her, or die! Picard, also on the planet, finds there can be exceptions to the rule--- at a price.
Reviewed by : Janis - A rather sordid subject, very well written. Without dwelling too much on the seedier aspects, it illustrates the horror of the situation crusher finds herself in. There are also some tender scenes between P/C. Adults only! 7.50
THE OUTING by Sandra Guzdek (internet)
Picard, Beverly, and some of the senior crew have a camp-out in the holodeck.
Reviewed by : Janis - Good P/C discussion about his double ('Allegiance'), and some amusing moments. 7.50
OUT IN THE OPEN by Sandra Guzdek (internet)
Some children are lost in a transporter accident while the ship orbits earth. Deanna can't cope with everyone's grief. LaForge had recently made friends with one of the lost kids and is blocking his pain, and after a fall, Beverly has amnesia and can only remember life as a single woman in her 2nd year at Starfleet medical; for some reason usual treatments aren't working on treating her memory loss.
Reviewed by : Janis - Quite clever, this: how everything ties in with the tragedy, and it's something a bit different. There's some excellent P/C and I also enjoyed the Riker/Troi aspect. 8.25

PASSING CLOUDS by D.J. Nicholson (zine: Idylls 13)
Needing to forget after Beverly leaves him--when he had just suggested they explore their feelings, Jean-Luc goes to the holodeck and uses a Dixon Hill program. She turns up, wanting to explain. They make peace and exit still the best of friends. Moving along: Beverly is now using the holodeck; a rain drenched field, as she tries to come to terms with what happened with Ronin and wondering if her actions have ruined her and Jean-Luc's relationship. He enters, coming to see if she is all right. Taking refuge from the storm in a farmhouse, she comes to terms with her fears and tells him if he still wants her, she is ready to begin a new relationship with him.
Reviewed by : Janis - Entirely believable, very well written, completely in character and a tender, romantic and sometimes painful read. 8.50
THE PERFECT HOST by D. J. Nicholson (zine: Beyond Farpoint 5)
Alternative version of 'The Host'. Picard becomes the host for Odan. While Odan inhabits his body, Picard is aware of everything! Much later, when Odan now in his new body, has departed, Picard and Crusher have much to discuss.
Reviewed by : Janis - Picard's reactions to what he's having to endure are certainly believable, and some of the dialogue is well written, but--- I just think it could have been done better. 6.50
THE PHOTO by Sandra Makaresz (internet)
Beverly gets jealous during a Starfleet function and returns to the ship. In the holodeck she vents her frustration--- but the captain had followed her.
Reviewed by : Janis - Entertaining, nicely written, and another tale that ends up being rather moving. Adults only! 8
THE PHYSICAL by Naomi Novik (internet)
A furious crusher finds an interesting way to get revenge on the captain--- a health check with a difference. However, her revenge doesn't exactly go as planned.
Reviewed by : Janis - Okay, so the basic premise would never happen, but who cares; I loved this story. Wonderfully expressive, it's funny, extremely erotic, and I'm sure the author had a great time writing it. Adults only! 9
A PRIVATE INVITATION by M. Chelsea Mack (internet)
Beverly invites Jean-Luc to dinner, intent on seducing him. But the fear of intimacy that had caused her to leave him after their time on Kes-Prytt, still threatens to keep them from being more than just good friends.
Reviewed by : Janis - Entirely believable, tender and affecting. 8
