RENDEZVOUS by Becky J. Woods (zine: Idylls 14)

Beverly invites Jean-Luc to the holodeck for a trip on the _Orient Express_. As time goes by, he realizes she is now ready to begin a physical relationship with him. After a meal, they head for his stateroom....

Reviewed by : Janis - In the main, this is a light, fun story, but it does have some serious aspects; discussing their fear of beginning a relationship, and Beverly explaining why after KesPrytt she was scared to take things further. Ever since I began reading P/C, I've been hoping for that "This is the story that all P/C fans have been waiting for" - this isn't it and I've read stories I've liked better, but the dialogue and actions are the best ever; it is like you are actually watching this play out on tv; hearing them say it, seeing them doing it! Quite uncanny really--- and for this reason it gets, instead of a 7.50--- 9

THE RESCUE by Kim Kusser (internet)

When his bond mate dies, an injured Vulcan bonds with Beverly. When he is recovered, he offers to dissolve the bond, but she doesn't want that as she finds she likes it--- it somehow seems familiar. Picard is furious--- and jealous.

Reviewed by : Janis - There's an aspect here which I won't give away -- all I'll say is, Picard is more involved than he thinks. A good idea, but I felt to do it justice, it needed to be longer and the issues explored in more detail. 7

REVELATIONS by Melissa Zander (internet)

While waiting to resume duties on the _Enterprise 1701-E_, Jean-Luc and Beverly spend some time together. After a shaky start, she tells him she loves him and was wrong about not wanting their relationship to go further. Then, Admiral Nechayev reassigns her, and it's to be long term. But, Picard is having none of it.

Reviewed by : Janis - Part love story, this is also about Nechayev's past. It's almost like two different stories. While the latter is good, I much preferred the love story aspect. Some exceptionally well written dialogue and lovely moments. Adults only! 8

THE RIFT by M.A. Boyd (internet)

Picard and Crusher are on a secret mission. She is severely injured and he risks his life to join her on a cliff ledge. While awaiting rescue they contemplate their relationship.

Reviewed by : Janis - Well written, exciting and touching. 7.50

SATIN OR SILK by Janis Sherringham (internet : homepage)

Picard sees Beverly in an enticing piece of lingerie and becomes distracted wondering about the kind of material it is made of, as well as a few other things. He soon discovers a way to find the answers for himself - with Beverly's cooperation.

Reviewed by : Terry - This is a fun, slightly teasing glimpse at the less serious, teasing sides of Picard and Crusher. Brings a smile to your face. 8

THE SCENT OF PASSION by Janis Sherringham (zine: accepted by Naked Now but not yet published)

When Beverly wears some perfume, given to her by Wesley, unaware of its aphrodisiac properties on some species, including humans, she soon learns the passion roused in Picard can't be blamed entirely on the perfume.

Reviewed by : Terry  - This is a fun, titillating and touching story, without being rude or trashy 8

SECOND CHANCES by Patricia Ann LaFerrara (zine: Beyond Farpoint 4)

Crusher, Riker and Data are caught in a cave-in. Due to instabilities, the only way out is digging. This they do, while outside a rescue mission is also mounted. Meanwhile, the oxygen is running out--- but before Crusher blacks out, she gives Data a message for Picard. On the ship, Picard is wishing he'd told Beverly how he feels about her and growing ever more worried.

Reviewed by : Janis - I enjoyed this, and for the most part it's well written. However, a few things and some of the dialogue did seem rather out of character - but this didn't spoil the overall tale. 7

SERVICE by Terry S. Bowers (internet)

What if--- Picard/Locutus hadn't been rescued. The Borg had won. Now imagine this: some women aren't assimilated, they are injected with sperm; forced to give birth again and again. Babies are immediately taken away to become a Borg unit. Lying in a cubicle, about to give birth again, is Beverly Crusher.

Reviewed by : Janis - This horrifying story stayed with me for days. It's only short; we learn what life is now like for Beverly and are privy to her thoughts and despair. Truly frightening and upsetting! I had this rule; no matter how good the story, if it was short, I could not give it too high a mark as it wouldn't be fair to other writers who had produced a far longer, perhaps more involved story. I am now breaking that rule, as to give this story less would do it an injustice! Powerful stuff, indeed! 9.50

SHATTERED LIVES by Melissa Zander (internet)

After his second encounter with the Borg, Picard, having buried away and never completely dealt with his earlier experience either, teeters on the brink of madness, lashing out at everyone; Beverly in particular. Can he be saved - and if so; how?

Reviewed by : Janis - Picard's plight is convincing: I, however had a problem that Beverly would do what she does to try and save him. That aside, I enjoyed the story, which has some very well written passages. 7.50 {the mark remains the same - but after this review, I sent feedback to Melissa, who pointed out that after knowing JLP all this time, Bev would know him so well and take the risk--- well, I still think what she does is too drastic, but I can see Melissa's point of view to some degree.}

A SHIPBOARD CHRISTMAS by Marina Bailey (zine: Naked Now 4)

The crew celebrate Christmas. Beverly gives Jean-Luc an unusual gift; something that requires them to try it out and...

Reviewed by : Janis - Quite funny in parts, and an unusual way to get P/C together! 8

SINGULAR ATTENTION by Terry S. Bowers (internet)

Jean-Luc, his captivity by Gul Madred over, is beamed to sick bay, where Beverly attempts to heal him physically, and more importantly, mentally.

Reviewed by : Janis - More of a 'scenes we should have seen' look at things than a story, and very well written it is too. Picard's torment, Crusher's guilt at having left him behind--- it's all here, as is a wonderful and believable end paragraph. 7.50

STARLIGHT AND ROSES by Terry S. Bowers (currently unavailable)

malfunctioning shuttle forces Picard and Crusher to land on the moon of an unknown planet. With the captain injured and incapacitated, it is up to her to keep them alive until help arrives. Things go from bad to worse--- and it begins to seem doubtful that they will survive long enough to be rescued!

Reviewed by : Janis - I have read many, many of these tales; one or both injured, and they can sometimes be a little wearing. However, this story isn't about them finally admitting their feelings - they are too busy trying to survive, and that in itself makes a pleasant change. Well written, convincing, and it was nice to see such a resourceful Crusher. 7

STARLIGHT AND ROSES by Janis Sherringham (currently unavailable)

While on shore leave, Jean-Luc gives Beverly a single red rose. Her reaction is not at all what he expects - until she explains why, the she sets out to make things right with him.

Reviewed by : Terry - Addressing some unresolved feelings between them, this quick story helps them to understand each other a bit better and accept where their relationship is -- very slowly -- progressing. It's enjoyable. 6.50

STRONG ENOUGH by Melissa Zander (internet)

Jack and Beverly, along with Walker Keel and Jean-Luc Picard, go camping. Much hilarity ensues, but whenever he's alone with Beverly, Picard keeps going sullen. She begins to wonder if he dislikes her: then she learns the truth.

Reviewed by : Janis - Very well written and wholly believable, despite being a very short tale. 7

STRONG ENOUGH II-NEVER GIVE UP by Melissa Zander (internet)

Now serving together on the _Enterprise_, things finally come to a head between Jean-Luc and Beverly. Twenty five years of repressed passion can no longer be ignored!

Reviewed by : Janis - Again, a short tale, but this nicely finishes things off. Well written with several excellent paragraphs. 8

SURVIVAL by Janis Sherringham (currently unavailable)

An alien being forces Picard, Crusher, Riker, Troi and Markway to compete in a series of events - the prize being their lives. When they do better than expected, the being finds yet another way to deal with them -- one which may require two of them to sacrifice their lives for the others.

Reviewed by : Terry - There are enough tense moments in this story to make it a very good read, but the tension is offset with the stuff we like to see between characters. All this is topped off by good old-fashioned Starfleet determination. 7.50
